Free Weekly Ableton Live Rack 37: Paul Stretch Rack

This week’s Free Weekly Ableton Live Rack is being released in conjunction with SonicScoop.  I have been writing a column for them in which I go over some useful production techniques, my last one was about creative uses of side chaining, and this time I go through how I like to use an awesome piece of free software called Paul Stretch. Paul Stretch allows you to stretch audio into unimaginably long lengths.  Check out the article, complete with a tutorial video, at Sonic Scoop and download the instrument rack below!  Have fun and enjoy!

When you click the save icon on the rack itself (looks like a little floppy disc), Live saves it to your browser. You can then drag them to whatever folder you like. (the samples are automatically saved to your Live Library). Take a look at the second half of this video, I show you how I manage my presets… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J68bdQ0HBs0

Inspired by seeing this article, I refreshed my build of PaulStretch for OS X. If any of you mac people want it.
Current version for OS X Snow Leopard x86, with a link to a PPC build, if you’re really archaic like that.

Also inspired by this article I had a play. I do lots of Uke stuff and already have a rack setup of samples of me whacking strings with a wooden spoon =) so then I added some stretched versions of those sounds to make a sustained pad/thing which ended up sounding pretty sweet. Used extensively in this cheesy Christmas ditty, which is all Uke, played, pings and pads!

Cheers for the great idea! *looks around for things to stretch*
