Tons of drum samples, loaded with Analog warmth and character, for Ableton Live from AfroDJMac
The AfroDJMac Super Tape Drums for Ableton Live is a collection of over 30 Ableton Live Racks, with over 450 different drum sounds from a wide variety of sources. Let me tell you about it…
There’s some kind of magic that occurs when audio is put to tape. One of my best musical investments has been my Tascam 388 Studio 8 Track reel to reel machine. In a world of digital music that can sound as if it were produced inside a sterile vacuum, this tape machine can transport recordings into the warmth and coziness of the living room you used to play with your Legos in. Something about that analog tape just makes things warmer and smoother.
So I recorded some drum samples to the tape…I wound up recording over 450 drum sounds to be more exact! It took about 10 minutes of tape to get them all down. Here is a rundown of the features of The AfroDJMac Super Tape Drums for Ableton Live:
- 5 Ableton Live Sets
- 5 Different Families of Drums: 8 Bit, Drum Machines, OP-1 Drums, Live and Synthesized Drums, and Odd Percussion.
- 30+ Ableton Live Racks (Drum, Instrument, and Audio Effect Racks)
- Racks for Layering Drum sounds together
- Racks organized by Drum Type (Snare, Kick, Toms, Noises, Cymbals)
- Racks that allow you to audition every drum sound in each family
As exciting as the raw samples are, for me, the best part is how they are racked up in Ableton Live. I want these samples to be extremely easy to use in your productions, and the racks have been set up to do just that.
Drum Selector Racks: This set of racks contains 8 drum cells and 8 macro knobs that correspond to each drum cell. Turning the macro knob will cycle through the different drum sounds. This allows you to create a drum pattern, play it, and change up the drum kit on the fly. Don’t like the kick? Turn the knob and switch it out! This method makes creating drum kits a breeze.
Individual Drums Rack: These racks are grouped by drum type. Each family of drums has a rack with all of its kicks, snares, toms, noises, and cymbals. This is great if you know you want a tom drum from the Teenage Engineering OP-1, but are not sure which one.
Drum Layerers: If you like to layer drum sounds together, these racks make it super easy! These racks allow you to select two different drum sounds and sculpt and blend them together. This is especially useful if you want to combine the high end of one kick drum with the low end of another.
