2 Minute Ableton Tip #10: Sharing Ableton Projects

Share Ableton Live Projects and Files with Others

I've been sharing Free Ableton Racks for well over a year now, and I am often asked what is the best way to send Ableton Files to other people.  This Two Minute Ableton Tip will give you my thoughts on the matter.

While it is possible to create your own Ableton Live Packs (.alp files), I find the easiest way is to simply zip the entire project folder.  (If you want to know how to make Live Packs, check out this post in the Ableton forum.  I was the guy that asked this question waaaay back when :) ) In order to do this properly, you are going to want to get acquainted with the "Collect All and Save" function.  Found under the File menu, "Collect All and Save" will gather every sound and file your project references and copy them all to the project folder.  From there, all you have to do is archive or zip the project folder.  This is how I've been doing it, and it works like a charm.  Check out the video below for a quick walkthrough.

If you are in the NYC area, there are some cool things coming up this weekend.

First, I'll be playing at the Monster Party at Big Snow in Brooklyn on Friday the 13th.  This is going to be a super fun night, people are creating monsters to hang on the walls, and I am working on some monster cartoons to be synced with my live performance.  Playing on the bill will be Hounds, Glitter Freeze, and Breakfast in Fur.  DJ Elliptic will be spinning between sets.

Secondly, on Saturday, the 2nd Ableton Open Session Fade event will take place.  I went to the first one, and basically it starts out with some Ableton workshops, and then the live performances and dance party ensues.  It's probably the coolest way to geek out; it's very informative and fun!  Performances and workshops by Ableton Certified Trainers, Josh Bess, Adriano Clemente and more!
